Shane van Gisbergen is looking to improve on his P10 starting position in the first V8 Supercar race of the season at the big Clipsal 500 meeting in Adelaide later today (Saturday).

The young SP Tools-backed Stone Brothers Racing driver set the third quickest lap time in practice, and the fifth best in qualifying but slipped to tenth in the Top 10 Shootout (which decides the grid positions for today's 78 lap/250km race) after deciding not to go out on new tyres

Shane van Gisbergen – Car #9 SP Tools Racing:
"It’s was a full-on day yesterday but it wasa pretty good one and we made good progress with the car. It was a pretty strong qualifying car but for the Shootout we decided to run old tyres and I ended up winning the drift championship.”

"Today's race is 78 laps and it’s a long way. So while we had a good set up for Qualifying we will need to change some things on the car and hopefully get it the best we can for racing. My focus now is to concentrate on the race tomorrow and get a great result.”

Craig Lowndes will start today's race from pole after beating Garth Tander and Will Davison to the top spot in the Top 10 Shootout. Jonathan Webb, Jamie Whincup and van Gisbergen's Stone Brothers Racing teammate Tim Slade completed the top six in the Shootout with new SBR signing Lee Holdsworth set to start today's race from P15 on the grid.

Ross Stone – SBR Team Principal:
"It’s really solid to have two cars in the top 10 for the first race of the season. This is one of the hardest races on the calendar but if we can give the boys good cars I know that they are all good drivers, so any results are possible."
